Last night while sitting in my warm car, listening to the radio before I braved the frigid winter air, i sat listening to Lin Bramer talk about Pamela des barres’book Let’s Spend the Night Together. This is the type of book that speaks to me. The first chapter is on Elvis Presley’s muse, I.e. the woman who taught him how to kiss how to please a woman & how to shake what his momma gave him. Miss Japan beautiful. Aka Tura satana. Immediately as I turn the pages my head fills with images splashed across the screen. This is the type of Story I want to tell. I’m only on Chapter 1 so I can’t quite say whom I’d like to play. Pamela is a strong woman debunking the over generalized myth of “groupies are whores”. And as a groupie myself, I can tell you first hand it’s just not true. My own personal groupie days of with-the-band guest passes, all access venues, backstage beers, sleeping on tour busses and waking up in a new city are probably rooted in me from the punk rock musicians I grew up with. These are my people.
Tangent aside, im thinking baz luhrman would be my director of choice for this would be dream film. I love his fast paced screen imagery & with Pamela’s religious references i could see flash backs to her childhood bedroom with a poster of Jesus and the king side by side. Ooo Nicholas winding refn would be a candidate as well. I’m thinking I’d play Pamela.
